Well, here we are the final games of the season have arrived with the First XV already promoted to Level 4, National League 2. This has been a great season, with the Second XV also finishing as champions of the Kent Invicta league, as well as being through to the final of the Kent Cup which takes place on Sunday 1st May.
I want to take a moment to thank all the players, coaches, club volunteers and supporters for their relentless commitment and hard work during the season. Without each of your contributions, we would not have been able to deliver the exciting rugby on the pitch you have seen from all our teams. Thank you.
That said the season is not over, there is still a job to do. This weekend sees the Firsts welcome Hertford to the Paddock, where one point will see us crowned Champions of London & SE. We are of course determined to win the game, with thoughts of a losing bonus point only not on our agenda!!! Cliché alert – we are focused on playing the game not the occasion. You may remember back to the very first match of this campaign, when Herford beat us convincingly when we visited Herefordshire. They have had a very good season and are still in with a chance of promotion themselves. We are expecting a tough game against a highly motivated opposition.
The boys had a week off after the narrow victory over Maidenhead, where it was fair to say we rode our luck a little to secure the win. However, as on so many occasions this season, we got the job done while not playing at our best. We have prepared well this week with a number of players having recovered from injuries for me to have some selection headaches.
The weather on Saturday looks set to be warm and dry, and we are expecting a big crowd for this final game, with the players doing their best to get the points we need and play attractive rugby. We look forward to your support on what is a special day for Sevenoaks Rugby Club.
